Public Art in Archway

As well as the branch of the St Martin's Central School of Art www.csm.arts.ac.uk there are a lot of artists living and working around Archway. The area is also a venue for their work, much of it temporary.

Banksie's mural at the bottom of Highgate Hill was reputedly subject of a mural battle between Banksie and another graffiti specialist called Robo - or at least their teams. As a result it's been obliterated - photo to the right.

The mural on the side of the Hidwaway was created by local school kids in conjunction with the Archway town centre manager.

A mural on the side of Thomas Bros in Holloway Road was created by a student at Byam Shaw.  Another decorated the side of Archway Kebabs in Junction Road.

Other unexpected works were a row of rooftop mushrooms and chairs among the trees while the Big Rock Candy Fountain on top of the tube station was a Central St Martin's project.
