Diary of a Nobody
Mr Charles Pooter is a fictional City clerk and narrator of George and Weedon Grossmith’s comic novel The Diary of a Nobody, published in 1892. He rented a six-bedroom house, The Laurels, in Brickfield Terrace, Holloway.
The Laurels backed on to a railway and Mr Pooter would catch the tram to work down the Holloway Road.
It may be fictional but the original drawings do bear a strong resemblance to Pemberton Gardens Upper Holloway - see the photograph of number 1.
